I did some research on Scotland County since my options of interviewees are from Laurinburg. I wasn’t shocked to find out that Scotland is a small county with a population in the 40,000 range. The average household income is around 31,000 dollars I figured it would be in that area seeing it is a rural county. Scotland does have a health clinic along with one hospital which is also what I expected. What I didnt know, was that the county is divided up into four townships: Laurel Hill, Spring Hill, Stewartsville, and Davidson.
Im suprised it even has a hospital and a clinic being that Pembroke has nothing but an urgent care. At least people who are sick don’t have to travel far for medical attention.
I also notice that the when I was doing my research about the townships. I have lived in Scotland County 18 years and I didn’t even know that. Scotland County has a wide range of different health care facilities. I was in a store in Robeson County and the clerk was pregnant, I her say to the other store clerk, ” I’m not letting none of these doctors around here be my doctor,” and that’s when the other clerk replied, “welll Laurinburg got a very good OBGYN facility.” Many natives other counties feel that Scotland County is doing well for itself, but residents of the county beg to differ.
